This is an Andy Goldworthy inspired sculpture I built, photographed and then digitally manipulated the image.
For the last few years I've been contemplating and considering what inspires artist. Why do they create? Why do they choose tho create the things they do? And why do they choose the media (material) and techniques they do? In teaching I mostly deal with how to create art and for a long time the questions of "Why?" and "What?" have been demanding that I pay a fuller tribute to them.
With that in mind, I'm going off on an expedition of discovery. In my blog I'm going to begin sharing things that inspire me and my responses to those promptings. I'll post artwork that currently have some impact on me. Books, videos and other media that seem to offer clues and direction will also be posted and commented on. The most daunting task I've set for my self is to include a work daily that I have created. As a self-proclaimed artistic Jack-of -many-trades I'll include a lot of the work I do in class as demonstrations and examples in a variety of media and techniques. Thankfully technology has also provided a way to quickly, conveniently produce art work digitally that can be and created and posted with relative ease. My overarching objective is simply a journey of self-discovery and by putting the artifacts I find and create out in front of me for examination, a journey of self-understanding as well. Please feel free to observe and comment. Better yet, set off on your own journey and share. One of my objectives is to make this site as interactive as possible. That is what made the comments and suggestions left on the form on my home page so enlightening and gratifying, thanks. From time to time I may put the form back on the home page and offer a little extra credit for responses.
This morning a submission box has been added to the home page. this is to encourage/motivate students to check out the site and become aware of what is on it. Also, feed back on how the site could be improved is appreciated. My objective is to make this site as user friendly and useful as possible. It is very much a living document that is intended to grow and change with student needs.
This site is just coming together an beginning to gel. Feel free to to offer comments, questions or suggestions about the site and my art courses.
Thanks! |

I've been at MLMS since back when it was still a junior high, and still love it. I'm a potter, and jack-of-all trades master of none when it comes to art. Archives
