Day 1, 11/20/17
Daily Student Objectives: I can follow simple instructions and produce a drawing of anything I like, demonstrating my current skill level.
Class Activity: On a sheet of 9'x12" white drawing paper, do a drawing of anything you like. This first drawing is a benchmark work. You will be assessed by your own progress through the trimester. Bench mark works are used to gauge your progress, development and improvement through the course.
Assignment: Complete and turn in your drawing.
Day 2, 11/21/17
Daily Student Objectives: I can listen carefully and follow simple instructions. I understand all items covered in the Disclosure Statement. I can review it with parents/guardians online or with a printed version and complete the form at the end and properly submit it to Mr. Westenskow.
Class Activity: Mr. Westenskow went over the class Disclosure Statement covering all aspects of the class.
Assignment: With parents/guardians go over the Disclosure Statement and complete the form at the end and submit it (f your do not have internet access a hard copy is available). This must be completed with in the first 12 days of class.

Day 3, 11/27/17
Daily Student Objectives: I can legibly write my name an the front cover of my new sketchbook. I can use the proper format to set up each page in my sketchbook. I can bring my sketchbook, pencils and folder every day to class and use them as instructed.
Class Activity: Every student received a sketchbook today. Your name and hour should be printed neatly across the top of the front cover with a a Sharpie marker.
Assignment: Bring your sketchbook to class every day. Take good care of it and kept it neat, clean and undamaged. Use only the front of each page.
If you forget your sketchbook paper is available in the room to do the day's work. Outside of class you will redraw the work in your sketchbook. Replacement sketchbooks can be purchased for $6.00.

Class Activity: Mr. W. will demonstrate and show examples of how one's hand is constructed and how to begin the drawing your sketchbook. Ample class time to observe, draw and ask questions.

Class Activity: More instruction and examples are shown to illustrate how to observe and render light and shadow on an object. Ample class time to observe, draw and ask questions.
Assignment: The hand drawing is to be completed. No more class time will be used on the hand drawing. Students may work on it outside of class. It will be graded with other sketchbook assignments in about 2 weeks.

Class Activity: You will pick and emotion and do a minimum of 5 thumbnail sketches that communicate an emotion, feeling or mood. The drawings are "non-objective" in that they are not to depict any actual object. The quality of the lines and/or shapes should evoke the emotion, feeling or mood.
Assignment: In your sketchbook you will have a minimum of 2 drawings that evoke an emotion, feeling or mood. These will be use as preliminary drawings for a sculpture. A third drawing will be started in class and finished outside of class. Tomorrow you will start class with 3 complete drawings that evoke an emotion, feeling or mood.

Class Activity: Students are shown several examples of the type of sculpture they will be creating. They are then given a 6" x6" square of heavy paper. Instructions are to carefully cut, bend, fold, curl, etc. the paper in to a free standing sculpture that evokes the emotion of their drawing.
Assignment: I have started my sculpture.

Class Activity: The class will design a space for their sculptures and place them in it. Students are divided into 4 groups. 1 is the "landscape architects" who will arrange a large green sheet of butcher paper into a park, add a path and water features, bridges etc. Group 2 will arrange the trees and shrubs with in the landscape. Group 3 will arrange the classes' sculptures in the newly created park. Finally group 4 will place people throughout the park interacting within it and with the sculptures.
Assignment: A complete scale model of a sculpture park is created collaboratively by the class and photographed.

Class Activity: The project will a 3-dimensional interactive painting/sculpture. In their sketchbook students will do two full page compositions using geometric shapes incorporation value, scale and overlapping.
Assignment: Student will have completed 2 half page compositions with geometric shapes in their sketchbook.
